Vijay Varma, the acclaimed actor known for his diverse roles, opens up about a pivotal moment in his career that shaped his artistic journey. In a candid discussion with Galatta Plus, the actor shared the story of the only time he accepted a role for financial reasons, leading to an unexpected twist in his trajectory.
Vijay Varma, celebrated for his compelling performances in films like Gully Boy and Dahaad, recently revealed a lesser-known chapter in his career during a conversation with Galatta Plus. The versatile actor, known for his commitment to unconventional roles, recounted a challenging phase when financial constraints pushed him into accepting a role that didn’t align with his artistic aspirations.

At the time, with a mere 18 rupees in his bank account, Vijay Varma found himself at a crossroads. Despite his commitment to quality roles, the pressure of financial difficulties led him to accept a one-day reporter’s job with a payment of Rs 3000. This decision, however, proved to be a turning point in his career.
During the shoot, it became evident that Vijay’s heart wasn’t fully invested in the role. The English dialogues, coupled with his lack of connection to the character, resulted in a performance that fell short of his usual standards. To make matters worse, he was fired from the set, marking a low point in his career.
Reflecting on this experience, Vijay Varma confessed, “I had finished Monsoon Shootout by that time, so I had played a lead by then, but I went through that experience, and I was crying on my way back. I told myself that I will never take up anything for money. This happened in 2014, and I haven’t done anything for money since then.”

Despite this setback, Vijay Varma went on to leave a lasting impression with his charismatic portrayal of a cop in Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat. Looking ahead, his upcoming projects include Afghaani Snow and Murder Mubarak, showcasing his unwavering commitment to roles that resonate with his artistic sensibilities.
