It Ends With Us: Drama, Drama, Drama

We all know a lot more about this movie that we did before

In a recent interview promoting the film It Ends with Us, Blake Lively and her co-star Brandon Sklenar were asked how they would respond to fans who relate to the movie’s themes of domestic violence. Blake’s response, which included joking about sharing her location and phone number, left many confused and disappointed.

The It Ends with Us star recently sat down for an interview to discuss her role in the highly controversial film, but when asked how she’d respond to a fan sharing a personal story about domestic violence, her answer left everyone scratching their heads. Instead of offering a heartfelt response, Blake bizarrely joked about giving out her location and phone number. Even her co-star Brandon Sklenar looked visibly uncomfortable!

Fans on social media didn’t hold back, slamming Blake for her tone-deaf response. Many felt she was making light of a very serious topic, with some saying she clearly didn’t grasp the gravity of the film’s themes. The backlash was swift, with viewers expressing disbelief that this was how she chose to address such a sensitive issue.

This is just the latest in a series of missteps for Blake during the promo tour, where she’s been criticized for keeping things too lighthearted despite the film’s dark subject matter. It seems like her attempt at humor has seriously backfired, leaving many wondering if she really understands the impact of the story she’s telling. Yikes!

Counterpoint

Why would anyone talk to Blake about domestic violence? She is an actress. Second, her response is right. What is the question exactly? She is being open and sharing her information. She rightfully asks, as a Virgo, focused on the details, what are we talking here, emotional, logistical? I don’t see why they went after her when the question is improper. As well, just because she has starred in a movie, does not make her an expert on the topic. The interviewer was tone deaf and didn’t know how to ask Blake the right questions.

She is open and honest. She offers her phone number, her address, location, she is trying to understand the scope of the question. It’s much ado about nothing. Another article points to tension on the set about her weight and that perhaps a co-star lingered too long on a kiss. These are valid criticisms. She is human. She just had her 4th child. She is in a happy marriage. She is not the spokesperson on a heavy topic such as domestic violence.

It seems too much to criticize her like this.

Conclusion

Each movie has its own sets of issues. Perhaps, this one had editorial disputes, stunt issues, intimacy coordination issues, etc. However, to go after a woman in the movie is low. It is a tough topic. She leant herself to this difficult issue. Sure, she didn’t have the domestic violence number handy but honestly, the question isn’t really clear. Why would anyone talk to Blake about DV because she starred in a movie? She is not an expert on the topic.
