It ends with Us

Movie Promotion

For those, not in the know, there is a new movie out based on a book from Colleen Hoover. I watched it on Friday. It was a tough topic. Blake was accused of being a Mean Girl, Tone Deaf, and other adjectives.

Exhibit A:

This interview is appropriate for a fun movie but they still seem to engage in drama over it. In recent discussions about Blake Lively’s role and public statements related to domestic violence (DV), there is significant criticism. Commenters argue that Lively’s approach to representing and discussing DV seems insincere and disconnected from the real gravity of the issue. They feel that her focus on fashion and personal appearance detracts from the serious nature of DV. Some believe that her lack of awareness and sensitivity in interviews makes her a problematic spokesperson for such a critical subject. There’s a sentiment that Lively’s handling of the topic fails to honor the gravity of the experiences of those affected by domestic violence.

Exhibit B:

The internet loves to pile on so here is another non-issue reported.

Blake Lively is facing backlash online for her reaction to a fan’s gift. Critics argue that her refusal to wear the gift immediately, citing it clashing with her outfit, reflects poorly on her character. Some believe this incident reveals a lack of genuine kindness and sensitivity on her part, especially given the gift’s personal nature. Others argue that celebrities are not obligated to wear every gift they receive and that the criticism is disproportionate. The debate highlights broader issues of entitlement and the unrealistic expectations placed on celebrities.

Exhibit C

Another interviewer asked her what she’d do if she met someone that wanted to talk to Blake about

Blake Lively’s response to a question about how someone could approach her with their personal domestic violence story has drawn significant criticism. During an interview about her film It Ends With Us, Lively’s answer—suggesting people could ask for her address or phone number—was seen as flippant and inappropriate. Critics argue that her response lacked the seriousness and sensitivity expected when discussing such a serious topic. Many viewers expressed disappointment, suggesting she missed an opportunity to provide meaningful support or direct people to professional resources. Some feel her response reflects poorly on her understanding of the film’s themes and the gravity of domestic violence.

As you can see, the movie promotion wasn’t well thought out. The movie addresses serious topics and many feel that Blake missed an opportunity to address an important topic. On the other hand, Blake is not a DV expert. She offered her address, to find out the person’s location, and she tried to understand the scope of the question. Why would anyone write an actress? It does not make sense.

CONCLUSION

Blake is now the new mean girl. She faces harsh criticism for being a domestic violence movie. She is in a domestic bliss marriage so it was difficult for her. She did a great job. The movie was not as well made as it could have been as it shows physical abuse at the outset of the relationship when it takes much longer for abuse to set in. Others note abuse is 0 to 100 in many cases. This was not the best press plan for the movie. Blake could have done a lot better but so could have the 1) movie press team 2) the interviewers 3) the audience. It’s a tough topic. Blake delivered.
