Cecile Richards, former president of Planned Parenthood and a leading feminist activist, passed away at 67 from brain cancer. A lifelong advocate for abortion rights, she played a key role in Democratic politics, Planned Parenthood’s expansion, and reproductive rights activism. Richards started in politics as a teenager, later working on her mother’s Texas gubernatorial campaign and as a labor organizer.
She led Planned Parenthood from 2006-2018, making it a powerful political force, especially during Republican-led efforts to restrict abortion access. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, she continued advocacy through projects like Abortion in America and co-chairing the liberal PAC American Bridge. Despite setbacks, she remained committed to the fight for reproductive rights, acknowledging the challenges ahead but urging continued activism.
