Baldoni suffers a setback: NYT successfully pauses discovery

  1. The New York Times asked the court to pause the collection of evidence from them in a lawsuit involving Blake Lively and the makers of the movie “It Ends With Us.”
  2. The judge agreed to this pause for these reasons:
    • The New York Times made a strong argument that they shouldn’t be part of this lawsuit at all
    • Getting information from a news organization is complicated because they have special legal protections for their sources and reporting
    • Pausing evidence collection from the Times won’t significantly delay the overall case
  3. The evidence collection (called “discovery”) from other parties in the lawsuit will continue while the judge decides whether to dismiss the New York Times from the case completely.
  4. This is part of a bigger legal fight between actress Blake Lively and the production company/producers of the movie “It Ends With Us.”
  5. Sloane’s MTD is filed too.

Basically, the New York Times got temporary relief from having to turn over documents and information while the judge decides if they should be involved in this lawsuit at all.
