Taapsee Pannu recently basked in the glory of her latest cinematic triumph, Dunki, a Rajkumar Hirani directorial that saw her share the screen with the legendary Shah Rukh Khan for the first time. In an exclusive interview with the Times of India, Taapsee opened up about the overwhelming experience of meeting SRK and the challenges she faced while portraying romantic scenes with him.
The acclaimed actress confessed to freezing upon meeting Shah Rukh Khan for the first time, despite his warm and welcoming personality. Taapsee admitted to constantly reminding herself to “come back to reality” during the initial encounters. She revealed, “It’s not like he has an intimidating personality. But because you can see the same man you’ve been seeing for years on the big screen, you just freeze in that moment.” It took her a couple of days to snap out of the surreal experience.
Elaborating on the difficulty of romancing SRK on-screen, Taapsee shared, “When your eyes meet, and he looks at you with those expressions, you immediately have that déjà vu of those classic romantic films that he has done and we have loved him in those films. So you slip into that memory of what you have seen of him in the movies and have loved so much.” She described the challenge of not getting lost in the charm of SRK’s iconic romantic persona during the filming of their shared scenes.
Despite the initial hurdles, Taapsee praised SRK’s loving gaze and acknowledged the need to maintain a confident front while battling inner nervousness. The actress skillfully balanced projecting a brave facade while being mentally captivated by the Bollywood icon.
